The report is being jointly composed by the WB and the Vietnamese Government, targeting to offer recommendations for Viet Nam to achieve faster and more sustainable growth in the coming time.
According to an introductory report of the WB, over the last 20 years, Viet Nam has gained an average growth rate of 5.7%, the second-highest level in the world.
It is necessary for the country to acquire a 9% GDP growth rate in the next 20 years if it wants to catch up with other economies like the Republic of Korea and Taiwan (China). If registering a 5-6% GDP growth rate averagely, Viet Nam will fall into the middle income trap.
The report would be finalized at the end of 2015.
Addressing the event, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam who is the Chairman of National Council for Sustainable Development and Competitiveness Improvement proposed the launching of a website to gauge comments from domestic and foreign economists in order to craft a high-quality and effective report for policy makers in the coming time.
