ActionsADSOM WG and ADSOM Plus WG meetings held online
(Bqp.vn) - The ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting Working Group (ADSOM WG) and the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting Plus Working Group (ADSOM Plus WG) were held virtually on March 28 and 29. Lieutenant General Lay Chenda, Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Policy and Foreign Affairs under the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, Head of the ADSOM WG and ADSOM Plus WG of Cambodia chaired the events. Senior Colonel Pham Manh Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Relations under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence, Head of the Vietnamese delegation attended the meetings.

The events focused on discussing the draft joint statements of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM Plus; making preparations for ADSOM and ADSOM Plus; considering the organization of informal meetings between defence ministers of ASEAN Plus countries in 2022. Delegates also updated action plan of ADMM Plus Experts’ Working Groups for the 2021-2023 period.

The Vietnamese delegation actively participated in both meetings and had constructive ideas to the draft joint statements of ADMM and ADMM Plus. It also expressed support for Cambodia’s decisions at the events.

The Cambodian Ministry of National Defence thanked the ASEAN countries and the Plus ones for attending the meetings, expressing its belief that with the countries’ support and active participation, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence would fulfill its role as Chair of ADMM and ADMM Plus in 2022.
