Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien receives Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam

(Bqp.vn) - On April 9, at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Defense Minister hosted a reception for Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Vietnam Karl Van Den Bossche.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien stated that Vietnam is a country heavily affected by wars, therefore overcoming the consequences of war is an issue that Vietnam is very concerned about and wants to promote international cooperation. Recently, Vietnam - Belgium cooperation in the field of overcoming the consequences of Agent Orange/dioxin has achieved remarkable results.

At the reception, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien and Ambassador Karl Van Den Bossche discussed the possibility of cooperation in treating dioxin in polluted areas of Vietnam, including Phu Cat airport (Binh Dinh province). Assessing that Vietnam and the Kingdom of Belgium still have a lot of potential for cooperation in many fields, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien hopes that the two sides will pay more attention to defense cooperation in fields such as navy, military medicine, participation in UN peacekeeping operations, etc.

For his part, Ambassador Karl Van Den Bossche assessed that the relationship between the two countries has developed strongly in recent times, and expressed his agreement with Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien’s views on the areas of cooperation that the two sides concern. He also emphasized that the Belgian House of Representatives passed a Resolution calling for support for Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange in October 2023, which has contributed to promoting the attention of the international community and called on countries to support Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange.

Expressing his respect and appreciation for the Belgian House of Representatives as the first Parliament in the world to pass a resolution on Agent Orange victims, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that this is an important resolution for Vietnam.
