(Bqp.vn) - The eighth Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange officially started on April 11 with the solemn welcome ceremony for the Chinese delegation hosted by General Phan Van Giang at Lao Cai International Border Gate.

The eighth Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange, taking place on April 11 and 12, was co-chaired by Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang and his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun.
After the welcome ceremony, the two defense ministers saluted the sovereignty marker, planted a Vietnam - China border friendship tree at Lao Cai International Border Gate.

Within the framework of the exchange, the two defense ministers attended an inaugural ceremony of the Vietnam - China border friendship cultural house, visited and presented gifts to Kim Dong Primary School in Lao Cai city, visited the Border Post of Lao Cai International Border Gate, and observed the signing of cooperation documents.

The talks also was held on April 11 at Lao Cai Provincial Convention Center, between the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, led by Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang, and the Chinese counterpart, led by Defense Minister Dong Jun.

At the end of the talks, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two defense ministries on establishing a hotline between the Naval Service of the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam and the Southern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army of China.
Also in the framework of the eighth Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange, the high - ranking delegation of the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, led by Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang, arrived in China’s Yunnan province to participate in activities held in the country on April 12.
A solemn welcome ceremony for Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation was held at Hekou Border Gate of China under the chair of Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun. At the event, the two defense ministers saluted the sovereignty marker. They also witnessed a joint patrol session of the border guard forces of the two sides.

The eighth Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange is to realize the Vietnam - China Joint Statement on continuing deepening and upgrading the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, building a Vietnam - China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, which was issued during the state visit to Vietnam by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping in December 2023.
This exchange is more meaningful since it is held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange (2014 - 2024), contributing to boosting political trust, solidarity, and cooperation between the two militaries, the border protection forces, local authorities, and people in the Vietnam - China border areas, thus helping build a shared borderline of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation and development.
