The project is part of a series of activities planned in response to the Volunteer Festival for Community Health 2014 festival, which takes place simultaneously in almost all of the 63 provinces and cities nationwide on May 18.
An opening ceremony is to be held by the Vietnam Youth Federation and the Vietnam Young Doctors’ Association at the Tan Trao historical site in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang.
Under the programme, the doctors will also perform free eye surgeries on 1,000 elderly people. In addition, first aid training and nutrition classes have been organised for 5,000 teachers in 700 kindergartens and primary schools.
Through the festival, the organisers also hope to receive 13,000 units of blood from young volunteer donors.
